Environment

AHRN takes on brucellosis;  our wildlife should not pay the price for a negligent industry and outdated federal biological warfare, sloppy cleanup and historic denial.  Read our post here.....

AHRN:  UPCOMING  takes Schweitzer on for switching from the Green Governor to Coal Cowboy, as he abandons carbon capture.

OTTER CREEK:  Later in the week:  Analysis--The Democrats Must Put Foward a Gubernatorial Candidate that Did NOT Support the Otter Creek Coal development.  This massive coal stripping project is situated on the border of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation.  Montana State Land Board Ok'd the project.  It is NOT OKAY with native environmental groups.....

***********STREET DEMONSTRATION!!!!********

TAR SANDS & MEGA LOADS, there will be street demonstrations along Reserve Street, Missoula, tomorrow as the first of the oil megaloads enter our city.  AHRN WILL be there.... with our picket signs... Although these first two megaloads are destined for Billings, later loads will be trucked to the tar sands of Alberta.

ON LINE MAPPING TOOL:

The size and scope of tar sand oil (map taken from Wikipedia)  For non-profit use.

In situ and tar sand extraction is expected to equal total land mass area size of the state of Florida:

65,755 square miles (Florida)
255,541 square miles (Alberta land mass)

25-26% of Alberta's land mass will be used in oil extraction, visualize 1/4 of the province gone to oil development.

TAR SANDS:

Canada is the biggest supplier of oil to the U.S. at 1 million barrels a day.  47% of Canadian oil comes from the tar sands, tar sand oil makes up 62% of all oil produced in Alberta.

Over-burden:  the term the oil industry affixes to the old growth forest that is demolished to make way for the large open pit mining and the massive tailings ponds.

IN-SITU

80% of the recoverable oil in Alberta will use the in situ (in place) extraction process.
Where will the water for the water-intensive in-situ process come from?
There is a finite supply of clean water.
